Having micro piglets as your pet is really fun and not to mention - extraordinary! However, comes with the fun of having these cute tiny pigs as your pet is the responsibility that you should be ready to fulfill in order to see your micro piglets growing into healthy and fit micro pigs! Read on and learn about some useful tips to follow when caring for micro piglets, particularly on the two important things that can greatly affect your micro piglets' health: feeding and housing.
Micro Piglets' Diet
When you are purchasing micro piglets, be sure to ask the breeder or seller what they have been feeding these cute piglets and how much. Through this, you can come up with a baseline to start off, as well as any additions or changes to the diet that need to be made slowly.
Like normal farm pigs, micro piglets are voracious eaters and will eat almost anything you give them. However, since these micro pigs are your pet, you sure want them to stay with you for a longer time and to make this happen; you should make sure that your micro piglets are fed with a balanced diet through feeds especially developed for pigs. Don't worry because it's not hard to buy specialized feeds since many commercial companies have already developed specialized feeds with the complete ration formulated mainly based on their development stage. Generally, micro piglets should consume around 2% to 2.5% of their body weight for barrows and sows, and around 3% for the sows during their late gestation. While it's nice to give your pets some treats for being a nice pet to you, it's not good to overindulge them since their very small size cannot tolerate too much food consumption. Compared to the normal farm pig, micro piglets can easily get obese and this may have a very bad effect on their health.
Micro Piglets' Shelter
Pigs are often touted as smelly, dirty, and unattractive beasts; but micro piglets are different! They are clean and must be kept in a clean place. This is one of the reasons why micro pigs are becoming a favorite domestic pet. As a matter of fact, these pigs will not defecate or even urinate on their bedding, but will do so somewhere away from the bedding you gave them. Thus, you cam really keep them inside your home.
However, you have to remember that like other normal farm pigs, micro piglets have extreme weather conditions. They don't like droughts, cold winds, or even soaring humidity and temperature. They can only tolerate temperatures between 12 and 26 degrees Celsius. Anything below or above this range can make your micro piglets distressed and again, this is not good for their health. Having said this, you can keep these cute little pigs in your home as long as you adjust the air conditioning system accordingly.
Keeping micro piglets as your pet is such a great fun because they really do make great pets. They have distinctive personality and you will certainly notice this after you bring home these cute little piglets and get to know them better. If you give them the right shelter, keep their litter clean, and provide them the right food, having micro piglets can really be a rewarding experience.
